Dio De Los Muertos

Celebrating our Ancestors

It was a sight to be hold upon walking into Oakhill Farm last Sunday, which happened to be Dio de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead. The beautiful curtain of chrysanthemum heads in brightly colored orange and yellow were "sewn" together and hung from the ceiling to celebrate this holiday most associated with skeletons, retablos or alters, and fresh fruit and candy laid out as an offering for the dead. The alter was light with photos during the day, but by night time the table was more full and our ancestors and loved ones glowed in the light from the candles. Old hurts forgotten and replaced with a renewed sense of love and respect.

The evening festivities brought together people who work in the fields and people who are winemakers, artists, foodies, and busness owners all sharing a nibble, a glass of wine and a conversation.   While the mariachi band played, I thought, yes, this is my new community and I like it here.    oakhillfarm.sonoma-sky.com

That was a delicious, full, beautiful party. There were so many things to taste, and so many people, I'm sure I missed something. The alter is magic.
